The Trevor Project - which is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ young people.

For June's theme and June being pride month, The Trevor Project has definitely been on my mind for a number a reasons.

In case you're not familiar, The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) young people. They have both a call and text line, in addition to online chat services for LQBTQ folks up to age 24.

According to their 2022 national survey of nearly 34,000 LGBTQ youth ages 13 to 24 in the the United States, they found that 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. 60% of LGBTQ youth who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it.

I fully believe that you should love your child no matter what and that if your kid coming out to you is a problem then you should never be a parent. Fewer than 1 in 3 transgender and nonbinary youth found their home to be gender-affirming as reported by The Trevor Project.

"Although our data continue to show high rates of mental health and suicide risk among LGBTQ young people, it is crucial to note that these rates vary widely based on the way LGBTQ youth are treated."

-Dr. Myeshia Price (she/her or they/them), Senior Research Scientist at The Trevor Project

Anti-Transgender Legislation

The Trevor Project reported:

  • 93% of transgender and nonbinary youth said that they have worried about transgender people being denied access to gender-affirming medical care due to state or local laws.
  • 91% of transgender and nonbinary youth said that they have worried about transgender people being denied access to the bathroom due to state or local laws.

It's no secret that trans people have been the targets of bathroom bills and sport debates. Children (and adults) should not have to worry about where they can and cannot use the bathroom or if they'll be allowed to play sports aligned with their gender identity.

June's Sticker and Magnet Designs

June's designs feature a semicolon for the sticker. The semi colon as become a suicide awareness symbol in recent years. Taking the meaning from the semicolon aka something that could have ended, but didn't.

The magnet design features some of the top crisis lines for the United States.
